History

Purr Partners was incorporated in 2009 with two volunteers, 4 cats, and no budget. These two friends realized the need for a cat only rescue that worked with rural shelters where cats most often lost their lives if they entered the shelter. Most rescues worked primarily with dogs, but the cats seemed to be forgotten, and the suffering was heartbreaking. So, Purr Partners was founded to help shelter cats have a way out. The decision was made to concentrate on saving the lives of those most in jeopardy and with little hope of survival. High kill rural shelters became the focus for Purr Partners, and that is still true today. From those two original founders with no budget, the rescue has grown to over a hundred active volunteers and a budget of approximately $100,000. From the first four cats pulled from the shelter, Purr Partners now has between 100 and 150 cats and kittens in foster care at any given time. From approximately 150 pulls and adoptions that first year, we have increased to over 450 shelter rescues and adoptions in 2015. And we are still growing!
