History

Purr Partners Feline Rescue was incorporated in 2009 with two volunteers, 4 cats, and no budget. These two friends realized the need for a cat only rescue that worked with rural shelters where cats most often lost their lives if they entered the shelter. Most rescues worked primarily with dogs, but the cats seemed to be forgotten, and the suffering was heartbreaking. So, Purr Partners was founded to help shelter cats have a way out. The decision was made to concentrate on saving the lives of those most in jeopardy and with little hope of survival. High kill rural shelters became the focus for Purr Partners, and that is still true today. From those two original founders with no budget, the rescue has grown to over a hundred active volunteers and a budget of approximately $175,000. From the first four cats pulled from the shelter, Purr Partners now has between 100 and 150 cats and kittens in foster care at any given time. From approximately 150 pulls and adoptions the first year, we have increased to over 4,000 shelter rescues and adoptions and we are still growing!

Purr Partners Feline Rescue is a 501(c)(3), no-kill, foster-based, all-volunteer organization dedicated to saving the lives of cats and kittens in North Carolina — over 3,500 lives saved since 2009. We rescue cats and kittens from high kill shelters in rural North Carolina. All of our cats and kittens are fulling vetted; we test for feline leukemia and FIV, deworm, treat for fleas, vaccinate, spay or neuter, and microchip before finding these unwanted, helpless animals, permanent loving homes. We are self-funded through adoption fees, donations, and fundraising events and have an annual budget of approximately $175,000.

Adoption events are held every weekend from 11:30 am – 3 pm. We are proud to be a PetSmart Charities Adoption Partner and manage the PetSmart Adoption Centers in Wake Forest at 11835 Retail Drive and in Raleigh at Six Forks Station, 8825 Six Forks Road, and half-time at Capital Crossings, 2800 East Millbrook Road.
